Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Service September

|
On that same day, our memorial service honored yet another
faithful servant of God from Grace Baptist Church. Donald Parks
had gotten saved in about 1995. His conversion was dynamic and
he faithfully attended the services of Grace Baptist Church for
the next six years, always eager to serve the Lord in any way he
could whether it was on his knees scrubbing the restroom floors
or on his knees in prayer. He was always at the pastor’s right
hand, ready to fetch tools, clean up the endless messes from
building projects, or helping to hand out the thousands of
fliers in our area. Don’s marvelous bass voice blessed us and
the work teams with his solos of Negro spirituals and other
gospel songs and hymns. His faith was childlike, but not small
as demonstrated by his response to Pastor’s estimation in the
year 2000 of the remainder needed to finish the building.
“Pastor, that’s just pocket change for God.” From that comment
evolved our pocket change offering which we have our young
children receive during the Sunday morning service. Folks
accumulate their pocket change during the week and bring it in
for this offering which has sustained the work steadily. Don’s
final help came in the form of a gift from his meager estate at
his passing on December 13, 2001. It was used to finish the
construction of a pulpit for the new auditorium which Pastor had
been making. Hardly a day passes, but what Donald Parks crosses
the memory of the Grace Baptist family he lovingly helped.
Perhaps it could be said of Don’s service as it was of Elisha of
old, "here is he which poured water on the hands of Elijah. (II
Kings 3:11)". He was a friend and encourager.
