Friendship Baptist Church

Saturday, July 20, 2002, the arrival of the
cook and her husband from The Friendship Baptist Church, Men for
Missions group of Raleigh, NC began a blessed week. Next
arrived the painter on a later flight and then on Sunday a whole
bus load of men came in prepared to work. Also flying in was a
young Bible College student, Clifton Roth of Hixson, TN, whose
desire was to survey the west as a possible place of ministry
and to add to add his hands to the work. The Lord also provided
a veteran concrete finisher who Dick had led to the Lord at the
jail. Mark Rioux was a blessing to those he led in the work and
was blessed by those he roomed with for several nights. Hence,
concrete walkways were laid all around the building. We
marveled as we later walked all the way around and took in the
crisp clean paint job. A butter cream had replaced the
institutional tan and had literally caused some who passed by
daily to pull off or veer off the road as they watched the
change. A couple of neighbors even stopped by to pay their
compliments. Two signs now graced either end of the building
also. Inside, various and sundry things had been accomplished
as individuals went about painting doors and replacing
florescent lights. The workers delighted in the desk that they
built into Pastor Miller’s new office upstairs. The younger
members of this team moved all of Dick’s books up there from his
downstairs office. Truly a great joy welled up in us at God’s
goodness and kindness demonstrated by this group. Their
departure was well watered with tears of joy and gratitude.
October 8, 2002, we received a gift of $5000
from a Texan friend. This was designated for the wheelchair
lift, bringing the total in that fund to $7000 as another $2000
had come in earlier that summer. When we received it, we were
tempted to order the wheelchair lift and presume upon the Lord
for the remaining $4000. We were so glad that we did not as God
still had more surprises for us on that matter. He provided in
His way.
One of God’s provisions has been generous
and patient acquaintances who have not hung up on
“Moocher Miller” when he called up and said “Do you
have…? Can I borrow…?” God has used these generous ones to
save this project probably hundreds if not thousands of dollars:
spray painters, a tile saw, a laser beam for installing the
ceiling tile, a drywall texturing machine, scaffolds, ladders. |
