During the 1980 Winter Olympics we were reminded of
the joy of victory and the agony of defeat. As Tie and Randy came onto the
ice in the pairs competition it was apparent that he was struggling, but
after falling three times in practice he knew he could not perform—and
millions watch the agony of defeat. But that defeat means more when we
realize the vigorous path they had trod to reach the pinnacle of their
career only to have all hope dashed against the rocks. Each victory along
the way brought joy, but hat is little comfort the night of defeat.
Some times it is hard as a Christian to know what we should or
should not do. There are all kinds of questions that arise in the
decisions of our daily lives that make us ask that question. It may
be the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the places we go, or what
we do to and with our bodies.
This Sunday has been called by some Protect Marriage
Sunday and Monday is call your Representative Day (September 19-20,2004).
These days have both been announced by the American Family Association. Now
I know that the message we are to preach come from the Lord. And I know that
I don’t make a point of following the lead of the world and what day to
preach and teach what. But this is a subject that we have not preached on in
particular although our position has been and will be quite clear. But this
morning I want to give to you the Basis for our position.
We have just experienced one of the appointed harvest times in
the church. Dr. John R. Rice declares that the majority of
Christians that attended his revival meetings were saved during
times of special meetings and revivals in local churches. That time
when the concentrated efforts have been toward the lost. In the
fields of corn about us we see some what the same thing. Last Summer
Richard Franklin invited me to go on a campout with him and his son.
We went to the timber behind his home and pitched a tent and enjoyed
great fellowship in the rain. (more)
