As we begin a new year I was thinking about new
things in the Word of God. First of all three
are over 40 new things listed in Scripture,
therefore we will not look at all these things
in depth.
The main goal will be to consider some
practical aspect of theses new things.
In this new year we would like to challenge
your to so new thinking, and some new goals.
I. King
“Now there arose up a new king over
Egypt, which knew not Joseph.” (Exodus
1:8 KJV)
A. There was a new king over Egypt.
B. There is a new king over our hearts, from
the time we got saved.
II. New Meat Offering
“Even unto the morrow after the seventh
sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye
shall offer a new meat offering unto the
LORD.” (Leviticus 23:16 KJV)
A. This is an offering of Pentecost. Fifty days
after Passover.
B. It was to be a new or fresh offering.
C. This was the offering of the wheat harvest.
It was a thanks giving offering.
D. We should be thankful for what we have and
what we are to receive.
III. New Store
“And ye shall eat old store, and bring
forth the old because of the new.”
(Leviticus 26:10 KJV)
A. This was a promise of prosperity as they
entered the Promised land.
B. This was a conditional promise. They were
required to
“1 ¶ Ye shall make you no idols nor
graven image, neither rear you up a standing
image, neither shall ye set up any image of
stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I
am the LORD your God. 2 Ye shall keep my
sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the
LORD. 3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my
commandments, and do them;” (Leviticus
26:1-3 KJV)
C. Our salvation is not conditional, we are
saved by the Grace of God, but the blessings of
obedience are still conditional.
D. The Lord himself said that a faith and wise
steward would be blessed.
“And the Lord said, Who then is that
faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall
make ruler over his household, to give them
their portion of meat in due season?”
(Luke 12:42 KJV)
E. And Paul declared to the it required of
stewards to be faithful
“Moreover it is required in stewards,
that a man be found faithful.” (1
Corinthians 4:2 KJV)
IV. New Thing(s)
A. As New form of judgement
“But if the LORD make a new thing, and
the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up,
with all that appertain unto them, and they go
down quick into the pit; then ye shall
understand that these men have provoked the
LORD.” (Numbers 16:30 KJV)
B. There is nothing new under the sun.
“9 ¶ The thing that hath been, it
is that which shall be; and that which is done
is that which shall be done: and there is no
new thing under the sun. 10 Is there any thing
whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it
hath been already of old time, which was before
us.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 KJV)
C. God will do a new thing and he shall tell of
it before it happens.
“9 Behold, the former things are come to
pass, and new things do I declare: before they
spring forth I tell you of them. 10 Sing unto
the LORD a new song, and his praise from the
end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea,
and all that is therein; the isles, and the
inhabitants thereof.” (Isaiah 42:9-10
KJV)
D. God will go a new thing in making a way in
the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it
shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I
will even make a way in the wilderness, and
rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19 KJV)
E. God has show the prophet new things.
“Thou hast heard, see all this; and will
not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new
things from this time, even hidden things, and
thou didst not know them.” (Isaiah 48:6
KJV)
F. God had created an new thing in the earth,
Israel, and yet she is backsliding.
“How long wilt thou go about, O thou
backsliding daughter? for the LORD hath created
a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass
a man.” (Jeremiah 31:22 KJV)
1. Consider what he has done for you and where
are you at spiritually.
2. Consider what he has done for us, and where
are we at in our walk with the Lord as a
Church.
G. The Worldly Philosophy are always seeking
for a new thing.
“(For all the Athenians and strangers
which were there spent their time in nothing
else, but either to tell, or to hear some new
thing.)” (Acts 17:21 KJV)
H. We can treasure but new and old things.
“Then said he unto them, Therefore every
scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of
heaven is like unto a man that is an
householder, which bringeth forth out of his
treasure things new and old.” (Matthew
13:52 KJV)
1. What are the things that you treasure?
2. Are we bringing forth for display the things
that we treasure. That the world might see and
know.
I. He that sits on the throne will make all
thing new.
“And he that sat upon the throne said,
Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto
me, Write: for these words are true and
faithful.” (Revelation 21:5 KJV)
V. New House
A. A man with a new house was to dedicate it
before going to battle.
“And the officers shall speak unto the
people, saying, What man is there that hath
built a new house, and hath not dedicated it?
let him go and return to his house, lest he die
in the battle, and another man dedicate
it.” (Deuteronomy 20:5 KJV)
B. A man building a new house was to make it
safe.
“When thou buildest a new house, then
thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that
thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any
man fall from thence.” (Deuteronomy 22:8
KJV)
VI. New Wife
A. A man with a new wife was not to go to war
for a year, and he was to cheer up his wife who
had been separated from her family.
“When a man hath taken a new wife, he
shall not go out to war, neither shall he be
charged with any business: but he shall be free
at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife
which he hath taken.” (Deuteronomy 24:5
KJV)
VII. New Gods
A. New gods could not be trusted.
“They sacrificed unto devils, not to God;
to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that
came newly up, whom your fathers feared
not.” (Deuteronomy 32:17 KJV)
“They chose new gods; then was war in the
gates: was there a shield or spear seen among
forty thousand in Israel?” (Judges 5:8
KJV)
VIII. New Bottles of Wine
“And these bottles of wine, which we
filled, were new; and, behold, they be rent:
and these our garments and our shoes are become
old by reason of the very long journey.”
(Joshua 9:13 KJV)
“Behold, my belly is as wine which hath
no vent; it is ready to burst like new
bottles.” (Job 32:19 KJV)
“16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth
unto an old garment, for that which is put in
to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the
rent is made worse. 17 Neither do men put new
wine into old bottles: else the bottles break,
and the wine runneth out, and the bottles
perish: but they put new wine into new bottles,
and both are preserved.” (Matthew 9:16-17
KJV)
A. New wine is always in new bottles.
B. New wine in new bottles need to be vented
lest they break. –The Child of God who
has the Holy Spirit filling him will break
forth because he will bubble up on the inside
and burst if stifled.
C. God does not specialize in make reformation.
But in transformation.
D. We are new creatures.
IX. New Cords & New Ropes
“And they spake unto him, saying, No; but
we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into
their hand: but surely we will not kill thee.
And they bound him with two new cords, and
brought him up from the rock.” (Judges
15:13 KJV)
“11 And he said unto her, If they bind
me fast with new ropes that never were
occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as
another man. 12 Delilah therefore took new
ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto
him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And
there were liers in wait abiding in the
chamber. And he brake them from off his arms
like a thread.” (Judges 16:11-12 KJV)
A. Samson was bound with new cords, but the
power of God could not be held back.
B. The world will constantly try to bind the
work of God, but the Power of God is greater.
C. If we are powerless, it is not because the
cords are new, but the person of the Power is
not infilling us. We need to seek His power.
X. New Jawbone
“And he found a new jawbone of an ass,
and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a
thousand men therewith.” (Judges 15:15
KJV)
A. Why and new jawbone.—
1. It was strong because it had not decayed.
2. It was close at hand
B. The Bone was also tried—the ass had
used it many years and it had not broken.
C. The World is clamoring for a
“new” Bible. But what they get is
untried, untested, untrustworthy.
1. We have One that is tried, tested and
trustworthy.
2. We have the only Bible ever recommended by
the Congress of the United States.
3. We have the first English Bible ever printed
in the United States.
4. We have the Bible that was used in the great
revival of 1758 the Great Awakening, the Great
Revivial of the 1800, the Revival Bible of
Moody, Spurgeon, Torrey, Sunday, just to
mention a few.
XI. New Cart
“Now therefore make a new cart, and take
two milch kine, on which there hath come no
yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring
their calves home from them:” (1 Samuel
6:7 KJV)
“And they set the ark of God upon a new
cart, and brought it out of the house of
Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and
Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new
cart.” (2 Samuel 6:3 KJV)
“And they carried the ark of God in a new
cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and
Ahio drave the cart.” (1 Chronicles 13:7
KJV)
A. This new cart was a new way of carrying the
Ark of the Covenant.
B. God’s Prescribed way was to carry it
on the Shoulders of the Levites.
C. The new cart was man’s way. David may
of seen the processions of the other nations
carrying their gods on fancy wagon and carts,
the people sing and dancing as they went on.
And Said “I will give God the same
honor.” But that was not God’s
plan.
XII. New Moon
“Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow
is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed,
because thy seat will be empty.” (1
Samuel 20:18 KJV)
“And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to
morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail
to sit with the king at meat: but let me go,
that I may hide myself in the field unto the
third day at even.” (1 Samuel 20:5 KJV)
“So David hid himself in the field: and
when the new moon was come, the king sat him
down to eat meat.” (1 Samuel 20:24 KJV)
“And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to
him to day? it is neither new moon, nor
sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.”
(2 Kings 4:23 KJV)
“And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto
the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and
on the set feasts, by number, according to the
order commanded unto them, continually before
the LORD:” (1 Chronicles 23:31 KJV)
“Behold, I build an house to the name of
the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to
burn before him sweet incense, and for the
continual shewbread, and for the burnt
offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths,
and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts
of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance for
ever to Israel.” (2 Chronicles 2:4 KJV)
“Even after a certain rate every day,
offering according to the commandment of Moses,
on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on
the solemn feasts, three times in the year,
even in the feast of unleavened bread, and in
the feast of weeks, and in the feast of
tabernacles.” (2 Chronicles 8:13 KJV)
“He appointed also the king’s
portion of his substance for the burnt
offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening
burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for
the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for
the set feasts, as it is written in the law of
the LORD.” (2 Chronicles 31:3 KJV)
“And afterward offered the continual
burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of
all the set feasts of the LORD that were
consecrated, and of every one that willingly
offered a freewill offering unto the
LORD.” (Ezra 3:5 KJV)
“For the shewbread, and for the continual
meat offering, and for the continual burnt
offering, of the sabbaths, of the new moons,
for the set feasts, and for the holy things,
and for the sin offerings to make an atonement
for Israel, and for all the work of the house
of our God.” (Nehemiah 10:33 KJV)
“Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in
the time appointed, on our solemn feast
day.” (Psalms 81:3 KJV)
“13 Bring no more vain oblations;
incense is an abomination unto me; the new
moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies,
I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the
solemn meeting. 14 Your new moons and your
appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a
trouble unto me; I am weary to bear
them.” (Isaiah 1:13-14 KJV)
“22 For as the new heavens and the new
earth, which I will make, shall remain before
me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your
name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass,
that from one new moon to another, and from one
sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to
worship before me, saith the LORD.”
(Isaiah 66:22-23 KJV)
“And it shall be the prince’s part
to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings,
and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the
new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all
solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall
prepare the sin offering, and the meat
offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace
offerings, to make reconciliation for the house
of Israel.” (Ezekiel 45:17 KJV)
“And it shall be the prince’s part
to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings,
and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the
new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all
solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall
prepare the sin offering, and the meat
offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace
offerings, to make reconciliation for the house
of Israel.” (Ezekiel 45:17 KJV)
“Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the
inner court that looketh toward the east shall
be shut the six working days; but on the
sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of
the new moon it shall be opened.”
(Ezekiel 46:1 KJV)
“Likewise the people of the land shall
worship at the door of this gate before the
LORD in the sabbaths and in the new
moons.” (Ezekiel 46:3 KJV)
“And in the day of the new moon it shall
be a young bullock without blemish, and six
lambs, and a ram: they shall be without
blemish.” (Ezekiel 46:6 KJV)
“I will also cause all her mirth to
cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her
sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.”
(Hosea 2:11 KJV)
“Saying, When will the new moon be gone,
that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we
may set forth wheat, making the ephah small,
and the shekel great, and falsifying the
balances by deceit?” (Amos 8:5 KJV)
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat,
or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of
the new moon, or of the sabbath days:”
(Colossians 2:16 KJV)
A. The New Moon would signify the beginning of
a new month. And us use as such in the calendar
of Israel.
B. There was also a feast associated with the
beginning of months.
“And in the beginnings of your months ye
shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two
young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the
first year without spot;” (Numbers 28:11
KJV)
C. Although we do not keep it as an ordinance
and a requirement we celebrate the Lord
’s Supper normally on the first Sunday of
the Month. We are not to judge a man based on
the days he chose to remember His Lord.
XIII. New Sword
“And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of
the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed
three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he
being girded with a new sword, thought to have
slain David.” (2 Samuel 21:16 KJV)
A. A son of the giant Goliath, with a great
spear, half the weight of his fathers, and an
new shiny sword is no match for the man of God.
B. You and I have nothing to fear in the fight
as long as we are on God’s side and he is
in the battle.
XIV. New Garment
A. A Corrupt king in a new garment is not match
for the Prophet of God.
“29 And it came to pass at that time
when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the
prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the
way; and he had clad himself with a new
garment; and they two were alone in the field:
30 And Ahijah caught the new garment that was
on him, and rent it in twelve pieces:” (1
Kings 11:29-30 KJV)
B. God is not in the business of fixing up the
old, he is in the business of making the old
new.
“36 And he spake also a parable unto
them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment
upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new
maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out
of the new agreeth not with the old. (Luke
5:36KJV)
XV. New Cruse
“And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and
put salt therein. And they brought it to
him.” (2 Kings 2:20 KJV)
A. Elisha ask for a new cruse, jar with salt to
be put in the poison water and the waters were
healed.
B. We need to be clean vessels if we are going
to be used of God to carry the salt of the
earth to a lost a dying world.
XVI. New Court
“And Jehoshaphat stood in the
congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the
house of the LORD, before the new court,”
(2 Chronicles 20:5 KJV)
A. From a new or enlarged or rebuilt part of
the temple area Jehoshaphat stood and preached
the Word of God to those of Israel.
B. We have been blessed with a new and enlarged
place to Preach the Word of God
XVII. New Timber
“With three rows of great stones, and a
row of new timber: and let the expenses be
given out of the king’s house:”
(Ezra 6:4 KJV)
A. Building upon new timbers.
B. The King paid for the building of the temple
at Jerusalem
XVIII. New Wine
A. Offering to be brought of new
wine—thankfulness for the blessing of
God.
“For the children of Israel and the
children of Levi shall bring the offering of
the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto
the chambers, where are the vessels of the
sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and
the porters, and the singers: and we will not
forsake the house of our God.” (Nehemiah
10:39 KJV)
B. Nehemiah build a great chamber to store the
offerings which included new wine that was to
be given for the support of the Levite.
“And he had prepared for him a great
chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat
offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels,
and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and
the oil, which was commanded to be given to the
Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and
the offerings of the priests.” (Nehemiah
13:5 KJV)
“Then brought all Judah the tithe of the
corn and the new wine and the oil unto the
treasuries.” (Nehemiah 13:12 KJV)
1. The tithe was to support the world of the
temple and of God
2. It was also to support the workers.
3. It is our prayer that in the year 2005 God
will allow Grace Baptist Church to become
totally self supporting. I would like to see us
to the place where we can fully support the
work and the man of God.
C. The New Wine mourneth is a picture of
judgment and lacke
“The new wine mourneth, the vine
languisheth, all the merryhearted do
sigh.” (Isaiah 24:7 KJV)
“The field is wasted, the land mourneth;
for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried
up, the oil languisheth.” (Joel 1:10 KJV)
“The floor and the winepress shall not
feed them, and the new wine shall fail in
her.” (Hosea 9:2 KJV)
“And I called for a drought upon the
land, and upon the mountains, and upon the
corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil,
and upon that which the ground bringeth forth,
and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the
labour of the hands.” (Haggai 1:11 KJV)
D. New wine a sign of blessing
“So shall thy barns be filled with
plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with
new wine.” (Proverbs 3:10 KJV)
“Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is
found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it
not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for
my servants’ sakes, that I may not
destroy them all.” (Isaiah 65:8 KJV)
“And it shall come to pass in that day,
that the mountains shall drop down new wine,
and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the
rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a
fountain shall come forth of the house of the
LORD, and shall water the valley of
Shittim.” (Joel 3:18 KJV)
“For how great is his goodness, and how
great is his beauty! corn shall make the young
men cheerful, and new wine the maids.”
(Zechariah 9:17 KJV)
E. New wine and whoredoms take away thy heart.
“Whoredom and wine and new wine take away
the heart.” (Hosea 4:11 KJV)
1. The lust of this world will turn our heart
away from the Lord
2. The enemy has laid the pathway with many
temptations.
“Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and
howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the
new wine; for it is cut off from your
mouth.” (Joel 1:5 KJV)
F. New Wine in old bottles.
KJV)
“21 No man also seweth a piece of new
cloth on an old garment: else the new piece
that filled it up taketh away from the old, and
the rent is made worse. 22 And no man putteth
new wine into old bottles: else the new wine
doth burst the bottles, and the wine is
spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but
new wine must be put into new bottles.”
(Mark 2:21-22 KJV)
37 And no man putteth new wine into old
bottles; else the new wine will burst the
bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall
perish. 38 But new wine must be put into new
bottles; and both are preserved. 39 No man
also having drunk old wine straightway desireth
new: for he saith, The old is better.”
(Luke 5:36-39 KJV)
G. The Filling of the Holy Spirit was perceived
as men filled with new wine.
“Others mocking said, These men are full
of new wine.” (Acts 2:13 KJV)
XIX. New Oil
A. A tithe of new oil was required. A
Thankfulness of the for the blessing of God.
“Then brought all Judah the tithe of the
corn and the new wine and the oil unto the
treasuries.” (Nehemiah 13:12 KJV)
“For the children of Israel and the
children of Levi shall bring the offering of
the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto
the chambers, where are the vessels of the
sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and
the porters, and the singers: and we will not
forsake the house of our God.” (Nehemiah
10:39 AV
B. The Chamber of Nehemiah was for the new oil
as well see New wine. “B”
“And he had prepared for him a great
chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat
offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels,
and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and
the oil, which was commanded to be given to the
Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and
the offerings of the priests.” (Nehemiah
13:5 KJV)
“Then brought all Judah the tithe of the
corn and the new wine and the oil unto the
treasuries.” (Nehemiah 13:12 KJV)
XX. New Song
A. We are to sing a new song. –Not the
songs of the world.
“Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully
with a loud noise.” (Psalms 33:3 KJV)
“O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing
unto the LORD, all the earth.” (Psalms
96:1 KJV)
“I will sing a new song unto thee, O
God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten
strings will I sing praises unto thee.”
(Psalms 144:9 KJV)
“Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a
new song, and his praise in the congregation of
saints.” (Psalms 149:1 KJV)
1. Because he has done marvelous things.
“<<A Psalm.>> O sing unto the
LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous
things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath
gotten him the victory.” (Psalms 98:1
KJV)
2. Because the former things have come to pass
KJV)
B. God is the one who puts the new song in our
mouth.
“And he hath put a new song in my mouth,
even praise unto our God: many shall see it,
and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”
(Psalms 40:3 KJV)
C. We will sing an new song in heaven. It will
be a song that praise the lamb that was slain.
He alone is worthy
“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou
art worthy to take the book, and to open the
seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast
redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every
kindred, and tongue, and people, and
nation;” (Revelation 5:9 KJV)
“And they sung as it were a new song
before the throne, and before the four beasts,
and the elders: and no man could learn that
song but the hundred and forty and four
thousand, which were redeemed from the
earth.” (Revelation 14:3 KJV)
XXI. New Fruit
A. A gift between lovers.
“The mandrakes give a smell, and at our
gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new
and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my
beloved.” (Song of Solomon 7:13 KJV)
B. New fruit in heaven, nothing stale, nothing
old,
“And by the river upon the bank thereof,
on this side and on that side, shall grow all
trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade,
neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it
shall bring forth new fruit according to his
months, because their waters they issued out of
the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be
for meat, and the leaf thereof for
medicine.” (Ezekiel 47:12 KJV)
XXII. New Sharp Threshing Instrument
A. An instrument of judgment, sharp and new,
with cut quickly and cleanly. It will not beat
out the grain in the process. But it will yield
a great harvest.
“Behold, I will make thee a new sharp
threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt
thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and
shalt make the hills as chaff.” (Isaiah
41:15 KJV)
XXIII. New Name
A. Gentiles called by a new name—and it
will be a name the Lord will speak
“And the Gentiles shall see thy
righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and
thou shalt be called by a new name, which the
mouth of the LORD shall name.” (Isaiah
62:2 KJV)
B. To the overcomers a new name is written in
stone, cannot be changed
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what
the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that
