Billings Baptist Temple changed its name to Grace Baptist
Church--Sunday June 3, 1984
Purpose to keep others from confusing our church with
their temple

Church has new name
Billings Baptist Temple, 3616 Broadwater
Ave., will change its name Sunday to Grace Baptist Church, Pastor Michael
Derrick announced.
The change is being made in order to be
known as a church rather than a temple, Derrick said. "With so many labor
temples, and so forth, the people decided to change to a church," he said.
Because Billings Baptist Church sounded
to similar to some other churches, the people chose Grace Baptist Church,
Derrick said.
He said tht some potential churchgoers
did not know that worship services were held at Billings Baptist Temple
because they thought it was a school, not a church. The church does operate
a school.
The name change was planned to take place
Sunday, which will be the 12th anniversary of the church. It will be
celebrated with a potluck lunch and large birthday cake after worship
services.
Derrick invited church members and other
interested persons to sign the charter register for the new name 10:00 am
Sunday.
