I have just finished listening to a
message by the pastor of my first
Fundamental Baptist Church I was a member
of Faith Baptist Church of Avon, Indiana.
It was an insightful message on the
danger of Islam. (I will make it
available to anyone who wants it on CD)
The Message was entitled “Islam,
America No 1 Enemy..
The hardest part about preaching on
missions is painting the picture of the
need of missions. Each week we have
included in the bulletin the prayer
letter of from 4 to 10 missionaries. Some
we support some we do not. The purpose of
printing them is to keep us informed of
the needs of missions around the world.
And as a Prayer reminder.
I have been reading a book entitled
“An Understandable History of the
English Bible” this past several
days. And as I was contemplating messages
this morning on Missions a question came
to my mind.
If the Bible is the Word of God, if it is
His Revelation to us, if the Words of
this book are accurate and final, If the
words of this book reveal the will of
God, and if it is as we claim our final
authority, then what is our
Responsibility to Missions?
Earlier this week as I considered the
message for this Morning, Faith Promise
Commitment Sunday and subject occurred to
me as we were praying, “Missions
and Money” We have considered the
Mandate for Mission, Prayer and the
Harvest, and “The Authority of the
Word of God and Missions” Now comes
the practical and beneficial aspect of
missions. Most of us are never going to
go overseas, most of us are never going
to go on deputation, most of us are never
going to preach in a foreign land or for
that matter in our homeland, but we can
all be involved in Missions.
In Iconium, Paul and Barnabus " so spoke
that a great multitude believed . . .
boldly in the Lord," so that He "granted
signs and wonders to be done by their
hands " (vv. 1-3).
Signs and wonders are not likely to be
granted where the Word of God is so
preached that a great multitude are put
to sleep.
Preaching " boldly in the Lord "-not in
the strength of our carnal wisdom and
fleshly energy-will certainly be
accompanied with the witness-bearing
power of the wonder-working presence of
God (Heb 2:4 ; Mark 16, 20
